My Story

This path was one I never pictured for myself (a lot of mom things are like that for me!). I was even one of those, "But how will they socialize"-ers... the horror! But here we are, 8+ years into home schooling, and I could not imagine a different life for our family.

But I guess I should start from the beginning. My name is Niki and I am a homeschooling mom of 4. A former high school chemistry and biology teacher, when my first child was born I decided I would rather stay home with her then spend almost all of my salary on daycare. We decided to change up the budget and make me a SHAM. Fast forward a few years, add another kiddo, and we are starting to look at school for our oldest. The problem... she has severe social anxiety. I'm talking cry in the corner of a room full of people level anxiety.

I did not have a great kindergarten experience, and I wholly believe it created a negative relation between school, and therefor learning, for me. I was a good student, but I could have been even better if school did not cause me so much anxiety. I did not want that to happen to my daughter. She was so full of interest and inquiry and I hated to see that light dimmed.  So we decided that we would homeschool for kindergarten and give her more time to learn to cope with her social anxiety.

What we didn't anticipate was that we would fall in love with the homeschool lifestyle. The freedom it provided for us in so many ways was enchanting. And now more than seven years and a few more kiddos later, we are still going strong.
