We try to take a road trip every summer, and normally we go out west. But this year we decided to make a visit with some of my husbands family we had not seen in quite some time up the east coast. And we had a wonderful time!
We had to make a small stop in our beloved Savannah, Ga. My husband travels here for work often, and we are fortunate enough to be able to travel with him sometimes. So it has become almost a home away from home for us. So we couldn't drive by without stopping and visiting some of our favorite spots.
Then we headed to Philadelphia! This was a really great visit and the kids really enjoyed seeing all the history. We visited the Liberty Bell and the Betsy Ross house (which was one of the favorites). And we had hoped to see Liberty Hall, but mom made a boo boo with the reservation and we missed out. So we will just have to go back and check it out again later. But our most favorite activity was the American Revolution History Museum that we visited. It was so well done and the kids (and adults) loved it!
We took a train into New York City and it is one of the highlights of the kids lives! They had the best time and were so excited to be on a train. In New York we visited the American Girl Doll store which had been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. They girls have inherited my love of all thing AG as well, so it was a very special day for us.
We of course had to make a trip to the Statue of "the" Liberty (if you ask my son)! The kids were fascinated by history of how the statue came to be and we spend so much time on the island that we didn't leave enough time for Ellis Island. Oh darn... another reason to go back. And our final stop was at the Natural History Museum. Another thing that got cut short on time. The kids loved riding the subway and roaming the big city. They were ready to go back as soon as we left.
It was an amazing trip! They kiddos could not stop talking about all the things we did and saw. They big girls were so excited to learn about how or country came to be and how their ancestors arrived here. We loved being able to visit with family we had not seen in far too long. And the we found out the our kids really love big cities. They are now bored with a small "big city" and want every where to have trains and subways.

Have you road tripped up the east coast yet? If you have, what were your favorite stops? We are planning to go back in the near future and I would love to know what the must sees are!
